10 ways to make Christmas Eve Magical

Updated: Dec 28, 2024

Are you trying to figure out how to make Christmas fun and feel a little magical for your little ones? Whether you bring Santa into it or not, there are several ways to help increase joy and cheer this holiday season. As you spread holiday cheer through different activities, you, as a mom, will also enjoy Christmas.

Christmas is a wonderful time of year to see family and friends and, most importantly, a time for giving. As a mom, create lasting memories that your little ones will cherish and remember as they age, such as reading Christmas stories, enjoying Christmas lights, or even doing Christmas crafts.

I will review these ten ways to make Christmas magical, whether you celebrate Santa or not. Although not everyone celebrates Santa, Christmas can feel magical without the guy in the red suit.

Santa:

  1. Cookies and Milk left out for Santa

  2. Make Reindeer Food

  3. Santa Letter and Certificate

  4. Christmas Pajamas

  5. Visit Santa

No Santa:

  1. Christmas Movie Marathon

  2. Enjoy Christmas lights

  3. Christmas Crafts

  4. Read Christmas Books or Book

  5. Giving Gifts to those in need

1. Cookies and Milk Left Out for Santa

As you leave cookies and Milk out for Santa on Christmas Eve, this could be a learning opportunity for your child. Leaving cookies out is an act of kindness and thankfulness for the gifts.

There are a few things you can do to get cookies. There are Christmas cookie kits, baking cookies, and even store-bought cookies. It's fun to decorate or bake cookies with my little ones. I remember helping my mom bake cookies when I was little, especially during the holidays. It was fun for me, and that memory stuck with me.

To make setting out cookies and Milk for Santa even more unique, consider using a designated plate and cup specifically designed for this activity.

2. Make Reindeer Food

Reindeer food is easy to make and can add a little wonder to your child's Christmas holiday experience. Making the food with your child can be a fun memory for you both.

If you are looking for a recipe for reindeer food, you can find several, such as oats, sugar cookie sprinkles, or even carrots.

3. Santa's Letter and Certificate

Writing a letter to Santa or getting a letter from Santa is something fun a parent can do if they choose to have Santa at Christmas. I have a Santa letter and a good list Certificate to make the holiday experience memorable. You can purchase the Santa letter and certificate from my Etsy shop.

4. Christmas Pajamas

Matching Christmas pajamas adds a fun experience for the whole family. You could start a tradition with the family wearing matching pajamas and take a photo together on Christmas Eve. We didn't do matching pajamas this year, but my little one and I have Christmas-themed pajamas.

5. Visit Santa

My mom took me to visit Santa, and I wouldn't say I liked the visit. I cried, and it was not a good experience for me. Not all kids will have a negative experience like I did. There are a lot of local businesses and community events in your area that have a special day or night with Santa.

6. Christmas Movie Marathon

This tradition is honestly one of my favorites. I am an introvert, but I enjoy being busy and love spending time with the family. We enjoy watching movies about Santa and the Elves or a film about hope during Christmas time.

7. Enjoy Christmas Lights

There are several ways to view Christmas lights. Your local park or houses in your neighborhoods have Christmas lights hung—a slow drive through a park with hot chocolate. When I was younger, my parents drove us through a park decorated with Christmas lights every year.

While viewing Christmas lights, you can play a few games to keep the holiday cheer while looking at the beautiful lights. You can play a Christmas lights scavenger hunt, I Spy, or Alphabet game. The Christmas lights scavenger hunt game is simple. You find the object or item on the Scavenger Hunt list and mark it off. The I Spy Christmas lights game can be fun, making your family guess what your object is. The Christmas alphabet game is a game that you can play while viewing lights. You start with the letter A and go to Z, naming holiday words.

8. Christmas Crafts

Christmas crafts are fun for the kids and can be fun for the whole family. A Holiday craft can be a creative outlet not only for the children but also for the parents. Getting the supplies for a craft might be inconvenient sometimes, but you can also purchase kits. You can find a snowman craft and more at a dollar store with all the supplies.

Examples of crafts are creating a gingerbread man with construction paper and googly eyes. Another example is making a candy cane with a pipe cleaner and red and white beads to look like a candy cane. I helped my child peel Christmas stickers and put them on a green triangle to symbolize a Christmas tree. Crafts can be simple and also be fun for the kids.

9. Read Christmas Books or a Special Book

Reading a Christmas book could become a new tradition in your family, especially on Christmas Eve. Picture everyone gathered around the fireplace reading a Christmas book before bed. Reading to your child is a great bonding experience and something that can help build their language skills in general. You can read one book or five, which would be the most incredible opportunity to spend time with the family.

10. Giving Gifts to those in need

There are several ways to participate in a Giving Tree. One way is to place a cardboard box under the tree, and you and the kids could put items in the box you no longer want and then donate the items. You can buy items and donate the gifts to a child or family in need by partnering with a charity, homeless shelter, children in foster care, or even a nursing home.

Giving gifts to others is an excellent way for your child to learn to be thankful for what they have and increase social skills, empathy, and self-esteem. Giving will encourage good behavior as they think of others, positively influencing the community.

Conclusion

These ten things can help make Christmas Eve memorable for the whole family. These activities encourage thinking of others, spending time with family, encouraging a child's language, social skills, self-esteem, cooking skills, or creating special memories.

Remember, for a wonderful experience, you can buy a Santa letter and Certificates from my Etsy shop. The Christmas certificates and letters are on sale! So hurry and purchase before the sale ends.
